- Government activities should be limited to those things, which people cannot do at all or cannot do as well for themselves.
- The most effective government is closest to the people. That is why local government is so important.
As a retired Assistant Fire Chief I have had training opportunities and management experience that qualify me to meet the challenges of working on the Commissioners Court. A Commissioner needs to be able to make good decisions based on fact. My whole life has been dedicated to doing just that, from a Paramedic making life and death decisions to the Emergency Management Coordinator making the same life and death decisions on a much larger scale. My experience and training will allow me to make commonsense decisions to balance:
- Individual rights
- The public's need and safety
- The Ector County budget
I will help the Commissioners Court make county government as effective and efficient as it can possibly be. I truly believe in the motto quoted by Henry David Thoreau:
![]()
I will use common sense to limit Government growth and spending in Ector County.
- Our County Commissioner’s salaries have increased 45% over the last four years. As a citizen of Ector County, I believe that was not in our best interest. If elected, I will not vote for an increase in pay for the Commissioners during my term in office. My opponent would have you believe a 40 hour work week justifies that raise. Instead, I will work the hours required to serve you, the citizens of Ector County. I will welcome any of your concerns, interests and suggestions that will help benefit and/or improve our community.
- My opponent calls herself “The People’s Commissioner”, but who does she really listen to? Just this year alone, she has requested and received campaign donations totaling over $13,000 from special interests that receive contracts or other financial benefits from her vote on the Commissioner’s Court. We have a right to ensure that our Commissioner’s vote benefits all of us and not just those that pay for it. We get enough of that from Washington D.C.!
- The choices for County Commissioner, Pct. 3 are vastly different: a liberal tax-and-spend incumbent or a conservative candidate that will protect the taxpayers’ interests. Since Barbara Graff was elected 8 years ago, the County’s operating costs have increased from $25,391,840 to $41,332,116 (an increase of 61%). The actual taxes that we pay to support this spending binge have also increased by 49% over the past 8 years. Now she is talking about creating a bureaucratic code enforcement office to approve or deny any construction project in the County and establish a County operated trash collection service. Not only will these projects cost a tremendous amount of money and balloon the size of our County Government in terms of equipment and personnel, they simply duplicate services that everyone in precinct 3 is already paying for through our city taxes.
